Signs of Spring
Spring is Here ... at last
Is there any other time of year so welcome or so eagerly anticipated ? Surely Spring has a special place in the hearts of everyone. No other time of year holds such promise, or brightens the spirits in quite the way Spring does.

Spring , a time of awakening. The dampness of early morning mist,  surprise rain showers falling, reminding one of the sound of soft laughter. Rainbows shimmering as the clouds begin to part and the sun reappears. Tender new grass and bulb shoots emerging from the warming earth as tree branches display veils of soft green buds soon to unfold into delicate blossoms.  Spring does indeed bless us with so much .

The other seasons all have their own unique place in the scheme of things but Spring stands alone as a signal of new beginnings, renewal, and hope. Mother Nature planned well when she set the timing of the seasons. What could emphasize more the blessings of this season other than the harsh, cold days of winter ?  As the sun begins to grow warmer with each day that passes and there are the first signs of the flora and fauna awakening or returning from warmer climates one cannot help but feel a sense of renewal all around.

Those who are not fortunate enough to experience the changing seasons in quite the same way as we who live where there is a distinct difference as each season arrives may well think Spring is overrated by those of us who have spent long winter months coping with snow, ice and bitterly cold winds. Only those who do live where seasons shout their arrival loudly will truly understand how welcome springtime can be.

Each spring I realize once more just why I love the fact that I do live where winter can be harsh at times. Only the contrast between  the season just past and the one now upon us can really do justice to the warmth of the eagerness one feels as Spring arrives. Hope, anticipation and  a desire to once more be outdoors to nurture the plants which have slumbered throughout the cold days of winter and are now beginning to awaken. Beginning to plan for the new plantings which will further complement the surroundings of the old familiar residents of the garden is always such a pleasure. Hearing the sounds of the early morning as our feathered friends welcome each new day with song from the branches of the newly budding trees is  an experience not to be missed. And surely an experience well worth the wait all those cold dreary mornings when the landscape was shrouded in snow.

How can one not feel renewed and full of a sense of wonder that a fresh new beginning is upon us once more. The seasons are much like the varied times in our lives. Each has its own distinct characteristics. Each brings something which enriches even at those times when it seems the sun will not shine brightly ever again. But springtime reminds us each year that there is a time for new beginnings and new chances. A rebirth and a clean slate  upon which one can draw a new blueprint for the days ahead. A time for optimism and hope once more.

As Thoreau reminds us  ... "Live in each season as it passes, breathe the air, drink the water, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each." Nature does reflect the never ending cycle of life; birth ... death ... rebirth. As certain as the sun, moon and stars, Constant and forever.

" One good thing about this world ...  there are always sure to be more springs."
... Lucy Maud Montgomery
