There must be a beautiful morning somewhere
A dawn lit by justice and where judgment
is fair
A place where a helping hand is held out
An ear that will listen stands poised
and devout
A place you can go when your heart needs
attending
A place where a spirit gets healing and
mending
A place where love's fire burns bright
day and night
And in from the cold you may warm by its
light
There must be a brilliant evening somewhere
Where the sun finally sets on pain and
despair
Where the coming of night is not filled
with grief
And comforting sleep brings you joyful
relief
A place where the sunset is apt to reflect
A day without malice, without disrespect
A place where the only tears shed, are
tears of joy
And a heart is not battered and bounced
like a toy
There must be a wonderful day somewhere
In a place filled with love and a great
need to care
A place where the burdens of conflict
are lifted
Where love is a skill and all lovers are
gifted
Where daily are spoken the words that support
And every mistake is not met with impatient
retort
A place where the land has not soaked
up the blood
Where honor and truth are not cast in
the mud
A place where the children are not left
alone
Where Sisters and Brothers may come to
atone
Where homeless and helpless don't cower
in fright
Where the hearts and the minds of the
world can unite
So you set out on a journey to seek out
this land
With compass and map and a vision so grand
To find peace and comfort in a world that's
so new
Where waters are crystal and skies are
so blue
With showers that cleanse and winds that
refresh
Where the spirit is fed and not just the
flesh
But search as you may, what you'll find
to be true
Is that it cannot be found, until it's
found within you.
~Author Unknown~
This poem touched my heart profoundly.
It expresses so well what I feel in my soul and try with most of
my prose to impart to others as well. Until an understanding of just
how imperative it is that we all strive to achieve these goals is resonating
in the hearts and minds of decent peoples everywhere the troubled world
we live in will stand no chance of harmony and safety for those now here
as well as those who will follow us.
Do we not owe it to those children
now here as well as those not yet born to make every possible effort to
reconcile our differences with those with whom we lack understanding or
find it impossible to communicate? Brute force doesn't do it. Armies don't
do it. Until we truly make sincere efforts to set aside bigotry and
hatred for those with whom we differ by reaching out to others
with a genuine effort to find common ground and with no desire to force
our will upon those who do not agree with our way of life there will be
no reconciliation.
Because others do not believe as we do
is no criteria that they are wrong. Where is it written that we are
infallible? Where are we given the right to force our way of life upon
others? Our way of life leaves a great deal to be desired if we are
to look at it objectively and be truthful with ourselves. Were this not
so our prisons would not be overcrowded, our less fortunate would not be
forced to live on the streets of our cities at the mercy of the elements
and the benevolence of those who do have the charity in their hearts
to extend a hand to their fellow man in need. Children would not
be at the mercy of those from whom they have every right to expect
protection, and society would not ignore these poor unfortunate souls until
some tragedy forces their plight to be addressed.
The corruption and greed which breeds
so much of the pain and suffering amongst our people is so prevalent in
our society that finding solutions for curtailing this ever expanding malignancy
seems more impossible with each year that passes. Professing to know what
is best for our own people and failing miserably is certainly no criteria
for inserting ourselves into the governance of other nations as an example
of what is right. We would do well to do our own housekeeping before
taking on the awesome responsibility of daring to claim some moral
superiority and responsibility for the welfare of the citizens of other
nations. Certainly we should offer assistance to the oppressed but
we do not have the right to force our way of life on anyone who does not
wish to share our beliefs.
Our faith is not meant to have selective
exceptions. We are all one in the eyes of God and it is our solemn responsibility
to try always to honour Him by living by that creed and by our actions
earn the right to be worthy of His acceptance that, although we may have
faltered at times, we did always follow His wishes as we understood them
to the best of our ability. Most of all we that we did not set ourselves
up to assume the right to usurp that which is His alone .. the right to
judge the fate of our fellow man.
The Rule of Law is meant to ensure
that we do not err in the manner in which we safeguard the safety
of all. Lawless international violence only breeds more killing of innocent
people which will only spawn new generations of embittered
peoples and new hate filled leaders who will see violence as the only answer.
We are actually further endangered by the unilateral use of
force which serves only to generate recruits for those who
have nothing but contempt for the Rule of Law and the peoples of this earth
who do not believe as they do. In resorting to such methods we join the
ranks of those who threaten the well being of all. And 'that beautiful
morning somewhere' becomes even less likely for all of mankind.
"To engage in war is always
to pick a wild card. And war must always be a last resort, not a first
choice.
I truly must question
the judgment of any President who can say that a massive unprovoked military
attack on a nation which is over 50% children is "in the highest moral
traditions of our country".
