As youngsters we make choices without considering
consequences. When we are young we too often lack the knowledge to realize
how catastrophic those choices may be.One more lesson yet to be learned
which only maturity teaches. If we are fortunate the less than beneficial
choices made in the early years do not have long term effects. Thankfully,
as time passes we begin to understand that we need to take more care
when making decisions which can resonate for years to come. That
is not to say we will not still make mistakes but hopefully the frequency
of error in judgment will diminish as we learn that the only real mistake
is the one from which we learn nothing
Throughout our lives we are constantly
faced with choices. It's easy to become discouraged when
situatons arise, as they invariably do, where no matter what you do everything
seems to go wrong and there does not appear to be any way out. Hopefully
with time we have gained a measure of insight, learned from mistakes
made, and our ability to choose wisely has vastly improved. By the
time we have reached that level of maturity where we know that destiny
is not a matter of chance, but a matter of choice and not a thing to be
waited for we should ideally have gained the experience in life to
apply that knowledge when making choices.
As we travel through life there are always
those times when serious and at times even grave decisions must be made.
When the choices are difficult and solutions elusive. There are some situations
where all you can do is to simply let go and move on, gather your courage
together and choose a new direction. Having the wisdom to do that is much
easier said than done ... another of life's lessons learned, albeit with
much difficulty. We can try to avoid making choices by doing nothing,
but even that is a decision. 'As human beings, we are endowed
with freedom of choice, and we cannot shuffle off our responsibility upon
the shoulders of God or nature. We must shoulder it ourselves. It is our
responsibility.'

The process of change may be extremely
difficult but we come to recognize as the years pass that we
have many options in life, and many ways we can grow. We have to
believe that whatever decisions we make, they'll be the right choices for
us. The choices may not always lead where we might wish to go initially
but if made with common sense and a measure of prudence may well prove
to be wise choices indeed. After all, even happiness is a choice that requires
effort at times.
It is very easy to allow caution or fear
to influence our choices. In so doing we squeeze out of the life that we
are guarding so anxiously all the adventure and spontaneity that makes
it worth living. It is so important to remember that regretting things
we did can be tempered by time, it is regret for the things we did not
do that is inconsolable. The secret is do not ever give up or fear trying
once more. It really is true you know,
' There is always a brighter tomorrow that's
just down the road but we must not look back. We are not going that
way !'
Won't you please take a
minute or two and leave a note in my Guest Book?
I'd love to know you dropped
by.
"If
you have made mistakes ... there is always another chance for you ... you
may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call failure
is not the falling down but the staying down."
